[origin: EP0743104A2] The identification system uses an inductive scanning device (2a,2b) adjacent the transport conveyor for the cutlery items, providing a varying inductive voltage during the passage of each transported item. The measuring signal (S1,S2) provided by the inductive scanning device is evaluated by an electronic data processor (3) by comparison with stored signal characteristics corresponding to different cutlery items, to identify each item for corresponding control of a sorting device.
