[origin: EP0743183A2] The retaining device has a first roll (26.1) and a retainer to smooth the web against the first roll. The retainer is in a recessed moving circumferential zone of a second roll (26.2) running against the first roll to form a traction roll pair for the web. The second roll has at least one traction ring running against the first roll. It may be possible to extend the second roll radially in the recessed region using the retainer in order to clamp the web. The retainer may be elastically deformable, pref. because it is made of an elastically deformable material.
