[origin: EP0743269A2] The distribution path has several stacking containers arranged in sequence, to which the individual items (15) are fed via separately associated deflectors (3). The items are fed to the wall (12) of the stack within the stacking containers via a guide plate (4) and a stacking roller (1) to form a stack of items. A device in each container compresses the stack until shortly before the entry of the next item to be stacked. The stack roller compresses the stack and is moved away by a lever (7) shortly before the next item enters, enabling it to be fed into the gap between the stack, the roller and the stack wall.
