[origin: EP0743500A2] The heat recovery burner has an annular air duct (3) and an annular exhaust gas duct (4), separated from each other by a tubular heat-conducting wall (5). Tubular mats (6) of heat-resistant material are laid both in the air duct and in the exhaust duct. The mats become warm and increase heat transmission by thermal radiation. The mats take up less than 10% of the free passage cross-section of each duct. The mat may be multilaminar and may consist of carbon fibre or wire. If wire, it may be formed from one wire winding pushed into another. The dia. of the wire or carbon fibre should be less than 3 mm, pref. approx. 1.2 mm.
