[origin: WO9521324A1] A fuel injector (1) for a large two-stroke internal combustion engine has an elongated outer housing (2) for mounting in a water-cooled cylinder cover (51). A primary valve seat (18) for opening and closing the fuel injector is positioned in an upper, cooled valve section (1a), while a secondary closing member (32) for the fuel flow to the nozzle holes (24) is positioned in the nozzle (4) in an uncooled valve section (1b). The nozzle bore comprises an upper bore section (22) with a larger diameter than a lower bore section (29) with the nozzle holes. The secondary closing member is positioned at an area (23) with tapering diameter, when the valve slide (15) is in its closed position. On one side the closing member cuts off the majority of the fuel volume in the nozzle bore from the nozzle holes when the valve is closed, and on the other side, the valve slide ends at a distance from the nozzle holes so that the lower section (30) of the slide does not disturb the atomization when the injector is open.
