[origin: EP0744289A2] The print path is fitted with a line of sensors across the print feed with each sensor comprising a light source and light guide to direct light onto the print and a sensor to monitor the reflected light. The reflected light is monitored to determine the light reflection signals from the non printed areas between the print panels. These signals are compared with reference signals to generate correction signals for the moisture sprays (17) which cover the wetting rollers. The process does not require any special reference areas of the print cylinder and is independent of the layout of the print cylinder. The moisture level in the reference strips is raised to the toner limit ie. until no ink is found in the reference strips. The operating moisture level is then set a small amount above this level.
