The clamping unit (3) has a pivot mounted clamping shoe (5) and a clamping wheel fixed to a pivoting rocker arm (6) when the clamping wheel is turned. The clamping wheel is driven by an electric or compressed air motor (12) coaxial with the clamping wheel and connected to the clamping wheel by a planetary (14-19) gear coaxial with the wheel. The clamping wheel has an inner cavity partly containing the clamping wheel in the form of a cylindrical ring with cogged inside. The motors torque is adjustable.

Eine Spann- und Verschliessvorrichtung zum Umreifen eines Gegenstandes mit einem Band weist eine Spanneinheit (3) zum Halten und Spannen zweier zu verschliessender Enden des Bandes sowie eine Verschliesseinheit zum Verbinden der beiden sich überlappenden Enden auf. Die Spanneinheit (3) hat einen motorischen Antrieb (12) und umfasst einen Spannschuh (5) sowie ein an einer schwenkbaren Wippe (6) befestigtes, antreibbares Spannrad (8) zum Andrücken des Bandes gegen den Spannschuh (5) und zum Erfassen desselben bei Drehung. Zum Erreichen eines hohen Gesamtwirkungsgrades des Spannantriebs ist der Antriebsmotor (12) des Spannrades (8) koaxial mit dem Spannrad (8) angeordnet und über ein koaxial mit dem Spannrad (8) angeordnetes Getriebe mit dem Spannrad (8) verbunden. <IMAGE>
