The clamping unit (3) has a pivot mounted clamping shoe (5) and a clamping wheel driven by an electric or compressed air motor (8) and fixed to a pivoting rocker arm (6) whose pivot axle is positioned between one support surface (10) of the clamping shoe and a base plate (2). The support surface is movably mounted so that it is pressed against the clamping wheel when the clamping wheel is turned. The clamping shoe and rocker arm share the same pivot axle. The clamping shoe has a slide piece which is movable along an at least partly sloping surface of a holder. The holder has two guide pieces (17,19) for the bottom and top ends respectively of the strap.

Eine Spann- und Verschliessvorrichtung zum Umreifen eines Gegenstandes mit einem Kunststoffband weist eine Spanneinheit (3) zum Halten und Spannen zweier zu verschliessender Enden des Kunststoffbandes sowie eine Verschliesseinheit zum Verbinden der beiden sich überlappenden Enden auf. Die Spanneinheit (3) hat einen motorischen Antrieb (12) und umfasst einen Spannschuh (5) sowie ein an einer schwenkbaren Wippe (6) befestigtes, antreibbares Spannrad (8) zum Andrücken des Kunststoffbandes gegen den Spannschuh (5) und zum Erfassen desselben bei Drehung. Eine Auflagefläche (10) des Spannschuhs (5) ist derart beweglich gelagert, dass sie beim Spannvorgang durch Drehung des Spannrades (8) gegen dasselbe gedrückt wird, so dass die Wippe (6) mit dem Spannrad (8) genügend Andrückkraft auf das zu spannende Band ausübt, um ein Durchdrehen des Spannrades (8) zu vermeiden. <IMAGE>
