[origin: WO9522915A1] A football boot has a plurality of studs (11) disposed in a pattern which includes a part of at least one ring (12, 14). The studs (11) are asymmetric in that they provide grip along a first axis (A-A) and permit sliding along another axis (B-B) in a manner to encourage self cleaning. The studs are arranged with their respective first axes (A-A) aligned along the locus of the ring and their respective second axes (B-B) aligned transversely of the ring.
