[origin: DE4405205A1] Water-dispersible and/or water-emulsifiable partial esters from cyclic polycarboxylic acids or their (partial) anhydrides and monofunctional alcohols with a greasy character are used as amphiphilic agents for giving a greasy finish to and if required for retanning leathers and pelts. Also disclosed are aqueous dispersions of these amphiphilic partial esters having a greasy character designed as water-dilutable aqueous-viscous masses. Mixed with these partial esters, these dispersions may contain other emulsifiers and greasing or water-proofing agents known per se for leathers and pelts.
