[origin: WO9622420A1] A device for applying steam to a paper web has a steam box (48) with numerous zone chambers arrayed in succession over the width of the web. The steam box (48) is movable and so the distance between it and the web run can be adjusted. From each zone chamber a steam feed line (4) extends in the longitudinal direction through the interior of the steam box and from there outward up to a support plate (28). There the clearance between adjacent steam lines is substantially greater than within the steam box. For each zone chamber there is a steam control valve (35) situated laterally off the paper machine and connected to the support plate (28) by a flexible line (29).
