[origin: WO9622421A1] The invention pertains to a steam box for applying steam to a passing material web, e.g. a paper web to be dehydrated and running through the press part of a papermaking machine. The steam box completely spans the web crosswise to the web's running direction and has a number of zone chambers (3) that are arrayed in succession over the width of the web and covered by a perforated steam outlet plate (22). Each zone chamber (3) is connected to a steam source through its own control valve (35). The steam outlet plate can be removed for purposes of cleaning the zone chambers (3). A likewise removable perforated plate insert (20) is provided in each zone chamber (3).
