Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9525124A1] The present invention provides a method for diagnosing HIV-1 infection in a subject by identifying the presence of anti-HIV-1 antibodies in the subject's serum that react with an autoantigen such as 70K. The invention also provides a method of stimulating an immune response against HIV-1 in a subject comprising immunizing the subject with an amino acid sequence of an autoantigen such as 70K that crossreacts with neutralizing epitopes present on HIV-1. The invention further provides a skin test that is useful for diagnosing a subject having an HIV-1 infection.
