[origin: WO9622011A1] The weed-suppressing agent proposed comprises at least one fibrous biodegradable base material such as wood, straw, flax, wool, peat or peat substitutes and at least one added substance such as compost, horn meal, rock meal or slaughterhouse offal, having - optionally in the presence of another liquid component such as water - some cross-linking or conglutinating property in relation to the base material. The structure of the composite material thus formed is such that depending on the thickness of the layer applied, it prevents or retards any permeative growth of weeds.
