A process for electrolytic codeposition of copper and zinc on a metal element wherein the electrolytic bath consists of an aqueous solution of at least a bivalent copper salt, at least a zinc salt and an alkali pyrophosphate, and an amino acid compound of formula <CHEM> wherein Y, R1, and R2 have the meanings shown in the description, or an acid-addition salt of said amino acid compound, at a temperature of from 40 DEG C to 55 DEG C.
