Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0752789A2] The method enables decoder-end or encoder-end resynchronisation of a datastream which contains errors and is encoded for data compression in the form of a hierarchical organisation of different layers. Additional information from at least one higher order layer is inserted into at least one lower order layer. The additional information is used for resynchronisation. The datastream pref. corresponds to the MPEG, esp. MPEG2 standard. The slice layer pref. contains information on the picture layer. The additional information may be contained in the header of the slice layer. An encoder for carrying out the method has a data compression system. It also has a system for generating or determining the additional information and for calculating the correlation of successive images.
