[origin: DE4410799A1] A diode has a semiconductor layer and metallic conductive layers surface-bonded therewith. The object of the invention is to create such a diode with an improved switching time. For that purpose, one metallic conductive layer is transparent to light and the other metallic conductive layer is bonded to a substrate. It has been recognised that the use of a vertical arrangement reduces so much the transit time of the charge carriers that the switching time depends only from the RC time constant of the layered structure.
