Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0754927A1] The ignition system consists of a tube (2) of a combustible material with its inner wall covered by an explosive charge which has a central channel inside it. The charge is made from a number of layers of gunpowder grains measuring between 1 and 2.8 mm. in size, held together by a binding agent such as collodion. The tube (2) is made from cardboard impregnated with nitrocellulose, and the layers of the binding agent are located between two layers of powder grains. The charge is formed by rotating the tube at low speed, ca. 100 rpm, coating its inner surface with a layer of the binding agent by means of an applicator gun, applying a layer of the grains to the binding agent, and repeating these stages until a coating of the required thickness has been built up.
