[origin: EP0755038A1] The wireless security system has a central station (1) and several alarms. The latter are spaced apart from the central station (1) and are connected to it by radio. The system also has a switch device (3) with a radio transmitter (4). The switch system provides wireless sharp or not sharp switching of the system. The switch device (3), in addition to the radio transmitter (4), has an optical transmitter (5). This forms part of a unidirectional optical connection (S) to the central station (1). In the method of operating the system, on leaving the area to be protected, the monitoring is activated by the radio transmitter (4). On return, before entering the protected area, the monitoring is deactivated and entry is permitted. After entry within a predetermined time period, the optical transmitter (5) confirms the deactivation.
