[origin: EP0755174A2] An electronic flash device (22) includes an illumination element, an actuation circuit (18, 19) having a flash capacitor (30) providing energy releasable to illuminate the element, and a self-oscillating charging circuit (28), having a transistor, for charging the capacitor (30). The invention is characterized by a resistor (35) located between a base of the transistor (46) and ground for preventing the self-oscillating circuit (28) from charging the capacitor (30) when the flash device (22) is exposed to an external static electric charge. <IMAGE>
