Coating material for paper (I) contains: (a) 100 pts. wt. pigment contg. at least 10 pts. wt. calcium carbonate; (b) 0.1-2 pts. wt. linear, water-soluble poly-dipolar cpd. with a mol. wt. of up to 1 million; (c) 0.1-2 pts. wt. anionic polyelectrolyte; (d) 4-20 pts. wt. binder; and (e) sufficient water to give a solids content of 45-80 wt%.

Beschrieben wird eine Streichmasse für Papier, die a) ein Pigment und einen Anteil an Calciumcarbonat von mindestens 10 Gewichtsteilen, b) eine lineare, wasserlösliche Polydipolverbindung mit einem Molekulargewicht bis zu einer Million, c) einen anionischen Polyelektrolyten, d) ein Bindemittel und e) soviel Wasser umfaßt, daß der Feststoffgehalt der Streichmasse 45 bis 80 Gewichtsprozent beträgt. Eine solche Streichmasse ermöglicht unter anderem, daß sich sogar bei Verwendung von Calciumcarbonat als Pigment auf Papier eine gleichmäßige Beschichtung bei hoher Beschichtungsgeschwindigkeit und niedrigem Streichgewicht erzielen läßt.
