[origin: WO9535173A1] The invention relates to a process for producing sturdy, wear-resistant rotating wire, rope and/or cable running surfaces, especially surfaces of wire drawing drums of wire drawing machines or similar conveyor rollers or drums by edge-layer transformation hardening, refining, alloying or coating in hardened tracks of dimemsions suitable for the component and use, in which the energy is proportionately applied track by track by means of unconventional hardening processes, e.g. laser or electron beam hardening. According to the invention, in this process the hardened tracks (5) arranged parallel but inclined at an angle (4) of < 90 DEG to the axis of rotation of the wire, rope and/or cable running surface subject to wear and these hardened tracks (5) are staggered around the circumference of the wire, rope or cable running surface in such a way that the most symmetrically controlled heating effect possible is attained thereon.
