[origin: EP0761532A2] The strip of packing material (1) can be hot-sealed. It is shaped (18) into bags (3) filled (25) with a set weight of free-flowing material. A detector (33) is provided for variations in the filled height, a conveyor (21) indexing the bags through the filling station, detector and a folding and sealing station (26-28) over a support (31) whose height is controlled by the detector so that the bag sealing height matches that of the material in the bags. The feed conveyor (11) for the packing strip has a mechanism (41) applying a narrow transverse peel-off adhesive strip at intervals to the packing strip, so as to form the top seam of each bag. This mechanism is movable within set limits in the lengthwise direction under control of the detector, so as to bring the adhesive strip to the working height of the sealing mechanism. The control unit (35) of the detector can be connected to an adjusting drive (43) for the mechanism.
