[origin: EP0763427A2] The method involves accessing image signals serving for the production of the print form from a memory of a computer and feeding the signals to an arrangement for the illustration. The image data are stored in a first area of the memory (7) which provides the mask to be used after printing. Image data are stored in a further area (8) which provide digital printing control elements used in a number of printing machines (10, 11). After a disposition of a printing order for a certain printing machine, image data of the digital printing control elements is selected, with which the order is optimally performed on the disposed machine. The image data of the digital printing control elements and the image data that represent the mask are compiled in an image data record with the help of the computer (4, 14, 15, 19, 20) and stored in a further area in the memory. The generated image data record is used for the illustration of the print form carrier.
