Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0764474A1] The process for making a coloured thermoplastic part with the look of a metallic finish comprises injection moulding the part in coloured thermoplastic then applying to it a protection varnish incorporating flakes of mother of pearl. Pref. the varnish is polyurethane based containing about 2 wt.% of mother-of-pearl flakes of 50-150 micrometer size. The coloured thermoplastic is polypropylene containing 20% coloured talc with the following pigment loadings: 0.25-0.35% white 6; 0.02-0.05% blue 29; 0.4-0.9% yellow 53; 0.01-0.06% black 7.
