A hot steel band is prepared from an alloy containing 0.050-0.080 wt.% C, 0.200-0.450% Mn, 0.008-0.016% N, less than 0.020% each of Al, P, S and Si, the rest being Fe and residual impurities; the hot band is cold-rolled, annealed at a temp. below Ac1 to effect recrystallisation and finally cold-rolled again to reduce its thickness by 10-40%, pref. 20-30%. Also claimed are two cans made from the band, one comprising a tubular body and two end closures and the other a cup-like body and one end closure.

L'invention a pour objet un procédé de fabrication d'une bande métallique mince ayant la composition pondérale suivante : Carbone compris entre 50 et 80.10<-3>%, Manganèse compris entre 200 et 450.10<-3>%, Aluminium inférieur à 20.10<-3>%, Azote compris entre 8 et 16.10<-3>%, Phosphore inférieur à 20.10<-3>%, Soufre inférieur à 20.10<-3>%, Silicium inférieur à 20.10<-3>%, le reste étant du fer et des éléments résiduels, on effectue un laminage à froid de cette bande à chaud, on effectue un recuit de recristallisation et on effectue un relaminage à froid de la bande à un taux de réduction supérieur à 10%. L'invention s'applique à la fabrication d'une bande métallique mince destinée à la réalisation d'emballages métalliques du type boîtes alimentaires.
