Abstract (en)
A high pressure metal halogen discharge lamp has a ceramic discharge chamber (4) whose ends (6) enclose the tubular conduits (9,10) of molybdenum or similar metal sealed by the insulating ceramic plugs (11) which are sintered in position and have closely matched expansion characteristics to the chamber (4) and conduits (9,10). The effectiveness of the sealing plug (11) is subject to thermal change however and the effects of such changes are minimised by attaching one or more discs (15) to the conduits (9,10). The patent illustrates several possible designs of disc which are located at right angles to the conduit axes.
