[origin: EP0766094A1] A region with a mainly homogeneous magnetic field is formed in between two magnetic field generating devices. The magnetic field generating devices include external transversal sections with one section bigger than the other. The two devices are also rotationally symmetric . The spacing between the two magnetic field generating devices is between half and a full dia. of the larger device. The smaller device has a dia. of less than half that of the bigger device. The first magnetic field generating device includes an opening which provides access to the investigation region in which a homogeneous magnetic field is formed.
