The composite material is made of a light metal matrix, esp. of Al (alloy) with dispersed hollow glass balls of dia. 10-200, esp. 20-80 mu m. The glass balls have a wall thickness of 0.2-5, esp. 0.5-2 mu m and constitute 10-70, esp. 20-50 vol.% of the composite.

Eine Metallmatrix(10), vorzugsweise aus Leichtmetall, z. B. aus Aluminium, Magnesium oder deren Legierungen, enthält Hohlkugeln (11), vorzugsweise aus Glas mit 20 - 80 Mikrometer Durchmesser und Wanddicken von 0,5 - 2 Mikrometern, zu 20 bis 50 Volumenprozent. Geeignet als Kern von Sandwichstrukturen. Der Kompositwerkstoff kann durch Elektrolyse mit einer Dispersion der Kugeln im Elektrolyten hergestellt werden. <IMAGE>
