Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9534288A1] A method of treating hypertension and related symptoms thereof is described. A suspension of small, unilamellar vesicles composed primarily of phospholipids similar in nature to those of egg phosphatidylcholine is administered parenterally to a subject in need of such treatment repeatedly and over an extended period of time of at least several days, until a significant drop in blood pressure is observed. A method of improving renal function is also disclosed. In the treatment method, a suspension of liposomes is administered parenterally to a subject in need of such improvement repeatedly and over an extended period of time of at least several days, until a significant improvement in renal function is observed, as evidenced by an improvement in glomerular filtration rate characterized by a drop in plasma creatinine concentration of at least 10 percent.
