Prodn. of a metal rod (10) with thixotropic properties in a continuous casting mould (12) with an electromagnetic stirrer (14) extending over the total solidification zone of the melt to be cast to shear dendrites formed is claimed, in which the magnetic field produced by the stirrer stretches over the whole cross-section of the mould. The magnetic field is adjusted so that the shearing rate is 10-450 s<-1>.

Abstract (de)

Bei einem Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Metallstranges (10) mit thixotropen Eigenschaften in einer Stranggiesskokille (12) erstreckt sich eine elektromagnetische Rühreinrichtung (14) zum Abscheren sich bildender Dendriten über die gesamte Verfestigungszone der zu vergiessenden Metallschmelze. Das von der Rühreinrichtung (14) erzeugte Magnetfeld erstreckt sich ohne Nullstellen über den gesamten Querschnitt der Kokille. Das Magnetfeld wird so eingestellt, dass die Abscherrate zwischen 10 und 450 s<-1> liegt. Die Rühreinrichtung (14) wird während des Giessvorgangs in einer Ebene (E) senkrecht zur Kokillenachse in eine Oszillationsbewegung versetzt, wobei die Osziallationsfrequenz (fx, fy) der Rühreinrichtung zwischen 1 und 10 Hz und die Oszillationsamplitude zwischen 1 und 5 mm liegt. <IMAGE>
