Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0768226A2] The system to load and unload large freight vehicles (21,22) at a railway train has a swing bridge (1) between each pair of rail bogies (8). A swing mechanism gives a side pivoting movement to the ends of the bridge, and a locking system anchors the bridge longitudinally and laterally. The ends of the bridge are fitted with ramps and running rollers. A rotating support is at the centre of the bridge, at its under side, with a lifting mechanism which is retracted when the train is coupled together and in motion. For loading and unloading, the lifting mechanism is lowered, so that the rotating support and longitudinal rollers are on the ground, and the bridge can be made to swing by the swing mechanism. The under side of the pivot support has profiles to fit over the railway lines, with a rubber lining to prevent slipping. The rollers are rubber rollers
