[origin: GB2270247A] The diaper comprises an impervious outer support sheet (1), an absorbent pad (2) secured on the support sheet, a permeable inner cover sheet (3) covering the absorbent pad, fastening means (9) for closing the diaper, lengthwise elastic members (8) secured in the stretched state to the support sheet, outside the absorbent pad, and two side flaps (10) extending above the absorbent pad. The proximal edges (13) of the side flaps are joined to the cover sheet along lengthwise lines situated set back inwards in relation to the lengthwise edges of the absorbent pad, and the elasticized distal edges (14) of the side flaps are situated near one another. The distal edges (14) are joined together, at 18, from the transverse edges of the diaper at least as far as the corresponding transverse edges of the absorbent pad (2), thus forming a peripheral leakproofing barrier over the whole periphery of the absorbent pad.
