[origin: EP0769376A1] The rotary printer has one or more pairs of cylinders each comprising an impression cylinder (2) and an image-printing cylinder. The impression cylinder has a closed cylindrical circumferential face with a suction strip (5,6) at the inlet of each printing segment to connect with a suction air source to suck up the front edge of a sheet and hold same during transport over the impression cylinder during the printing process. The sheet is released from the impression cylinder when the suction strip is switched off from the suction air source. A transfer device on the impression cylinder is in front of the printing gap to transfer the sheet to the impression cylinder whilst transfer device after the printing gap transfer the sheet from the cylinder. The transfer device have a gripper-less device (68) interacting with the cylinder.
