[origin: WO9601998A1] In order to measure the pollutant concentration in exhaust gas, especially when the gas is collected before analysis, the exhaust gas is diluted with air to prevent the water vapour therein from condensing and falsifying the measurements. According to the present invention, a sample is taken from the exhaust gas to be analysed which is diluted with synthetic air. The test gas flow is controlled or regulated in such a way that the ratio of sample gas to the exhaust gas flow is constant. The ratio of the flows of synthetic air to exhaust gas is also kept constant. The invention is applicable to the measurement of polluting emissions from internal combustion engines.
