Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0770502A1] The procedure consists of applying a design to the cleaned surface of the stone, e.g. from a print or photographic reproduction on a lightweight paper (55 - 90 g/sqm). The paper is stuck to the surface of the stone with a water-bound adhesive, e.g. PVA, and a pressure of 500 - 800 kg/sq m is applied to it for a period of 2 to 5 hours. The pressure can be applied through a layer of foam, rubber or other flexible material, and a number of stone workpieces can be placed in a press (2) at the same time, sandwiched between layers (3) of flexible material. Following the application of pressure the stone workpiece is cut and trimmed according to the printed design, and finally coated with a cellulose varnish.
