[origin: EP0770571A2] The device uses a circulating guide element (2) to guide through the sheets. The latter has at least one suction opening (6) with a mouth cross section which can be covered by each passing sheet, and uses a suction effect which acts upon each sheet and which results from a reduced pressure in at least one opening. The mouth cross section of at least one suction opening lies in a groove (8,8'), which is formed in the guide element, and which is at least roughly orientated in the circumferential direction. The guide element may be in the form of an endless belt on a conveyor.
