Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0770777A2] The ignition current is supplied through a high-voltage (HV) distributor (1) to the four cylinders (Z1-Z4) of a four-stroke engine. A misfire detector (F) identifies the cylinder (Z1) which should have been fired at top dead centre (OT), and permits identification of the cylinder (Z3) needing to be fired next after about 180 deg. O in the first of the two crankshaft revolutions. The particular cylinder can be chosen at random from the beginning so that cylinder identification can be performed without provoking any misfire. When a misfire is detected in any cylinder, that cylinder is accepted as the particular one.
