Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9602575A1] This invention provides an article of manufacture comprising a solid support having operably affixed thereto an agent, or plurality of agents, capable of specifically forming a complex with a domain present on an HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein. This invention further provides an aqueous-soluble agent which is capable of spefically forming a complex with a domain present on an HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein, and comprises a moiety capable of specifically forming a complex with a known ligand, which moiety permits the removal of the agent from a sample via contact with an immobilized form of the known ligand. This invention further provides methods of treating a bodily fluid sample so as to remove therefrom HIV-1 if present in the sample using the articles of manufacture or agent of the subject invention. Finally, the subject invention provides kits for treating a bodily fluid sample so as to remove therefrom HIV-1 or HIV-1 gp120 envelope glycoprotein if present in the sample.
