[origin: WO9603898A1] An umbrella of the type having a canopy (10) that is fastened to a folding radial frame with hinged ribs (13) radiating from a center pole (11), and a sliding catch (14) which pivotally supports the braces (19) of said ribs (13) is disclosed. Secured between the sliding catch (14) and the ribs (13) is the reinforcing guy assembly (20). This assembly consists of elongated strings (21) having its inner ends connected to said sliding catch (14) and its outer ends connected to the outer ends of said ribs, and suspender means (22) having its lower ends connected to said elongated strings (21) and its upper ends connected to said ribs (13).
