Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9624542A1] A device in the form of a rigid container enabling a material (7) to be stored separately within a pressurised packaging such as a beverage can, and released when the can is opened so that it mixes with the contents thereof. The device consists of two compartments (C1, C2) fitted together by means of two ribs (5) and separated by a flexible membrane (6). Compartment C1 contains the material to be mixed and compartment C2 contains the pressurised packaging gas (4). A micro-aperture (3) provides pressure equalisation so that the container does not open during storage. Compartment C2 ensures the container is buoyant at all times. The material (7) is released when the packaging is opened and a sharp pressure drop is caused therein while the pressure drop in compartment C2 is gradual. The pressure differential exerts a force (F) on the membrane (6) to enable opening of the container. Compartment C2 releases its contents as it sinks to the bottom.
