[origin: EP0773524A1] Emergency services vehicles, such as fire, ambulance and police, have special signal generators that are activated and have a global positioning system using geo stationary satellites to fix the location. The data is received by a central traffic control station and this has a digital radio transmitter that outputs messages to vehicles with the region. This provides early warning of the presence of an emergency services vehicle.
