Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0528252A1] The invention relates to pliers (1) with two plier arms (2, 3) which are connected to one another by means of a joint bolt (4), the plier jaw (M) being formed above the intersection area and grip sections (7, 8) being formed below the intersection area on the plier arms (2, 3), in which arrangement one plier arm (2) gradually adjustable in the intersection area relative to the other plier arm (3) for changing the size of the plier jaw (M) passes through a clearance space (F) of the other plier arm (3), and furthermore the joint bolt (4) is suitably guided in a bore (14) of the other plier arm (3) and can be displaced transversely to the longitudinal plane of the pliers and has two cross-sectional areas adjacent in the axial direction of the joint bolt (4), of which one, in the coupled state, comes into positive-locking engagement with the profiled flanks (longitudinal-slot flanks 12) of a longitudinal slot (11), lying in the intersection area, of one plier arm (2), and the thinner cross-sectional area is freely displaceable in the longitudinal slot (11). To configure the pliers more favourably from the point of view of manipulation, the invention proposes that one side of the other plier arm (3) be formed with a recess (22) on the actuating side of the joint bolt (4), into which recess (22) the joint-bolt head (15) can be received during actuation, and that a sunk actuating stop be provided for the joint-bolt head (15). <IMAGE>
