Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0774366A1] The method involves making a blank from a soft metal or alloy, and hammering it to obtain an irregular surface with projections and recesses. At least one coat of paint or similar opaque material is given to the blank. The surface is then brushed to remove the paint from the projections while leaving it in the recesses. After this, a coat of varnish or other transparent protective finish is applied. The initial blank can be made from cast aluminium, zamac or other soft metal, e.g. copper, zinc or tin which is suitable for hammering. It can be carried out in a rotary drum containing hard balls. The paint can be applied in two coats of different colours, with only the second coat removed from the blank's projections.
