[origin: EP0774540A2] In a process for making a web of paper with a substantially uniform cross-machine grammage profile and a substantially uniform cross-machine profile of another web characteristic, the latter profile is adjusted over the fibre area in such a way that the ratio of the breaking length in the direction of web travel to that in the cross-machine direction is substantially constant across the width of the web.
