[origin: EP0774561A2] The device prevents a roller shutter or door from unrolling automatically, and has at least one crown wheel (33). The latter is fixed so that it rotates with the shaft of the shutter, or with an auxiliary shaft (34) which is coupled to this. The wheel rotates inside a fixed notched ring (31.1), and rolling elements (32) are arranged in the spaces between its teeth. The elements move radially outwards due to centrifugal effects, if the shaft rotates at a correspondingly high speed, in order to engage in a recess (31.4) in the upper region of the ring. The recess lies in the inner diameter of the ring, and a rolling element can become wedged between it and a tooth on the wheel. The rolling elements may be balls, cylinders, or pins.
