[origin: EP0774763A2] The electromagnet (1) has an armature (2) displaced along the longitudinal axis (12) of a magnetic coil (10), with a damping element (40) for braking the movement of the armature, which lies outside the magnetic circuit. The armature acts on the damping element via a braking body (41) with approximately the same mass as the armature. Preferably a second damping element (22) is inserted between the armature and the braking body.
