[origin: JPH09170189A] PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calender suitable for operation by arranging in a paper machine or a coating machine, comprising rolls which are vertically arranged, supported in an roll bearing and have an elastic coated film. SOLUTION: This calender 1 comprises five or more rolls 2-9, in which each roll is equipped with an individual driving gear. The calender has at least two rolls 2 and 7 to be heated. The coated film of the elastic rolls 3, 5, 6 and 8 is made of a synthetic resin which can be brought into contact with a scraper blade 14. The calender has devices 15 and 16 for drawing in a transported belt 21 of a paper sheet.
