Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0775779A1] The plasmatic tamper has three sets of working tools (15,16,17) which are dug into the rail bed and vibrated to tamp the ballast and align the rails. The tamping unit has one type of working system (15) with three working heads, and one type of system (16) with two heads. Using different combinations of the working tools they can be set between the sleepers of different spacing patterns. The sets of tools are arranged one behind the other along the vehicle and cover a set length of track. The working tools are set in the same longitudinal working planes. The separate tools are brought into operation, or are pulled back, by servo drives (28).
