[origin: EP0775880A2] In a process for the low temperature separation of air in a rectification column system with a primary separation column (10) and a low pressure column (20), air (1,3) is fed (4,6,7,8,41) into the primary separation column (10), and a nitrogen-enriched head fraction (11) and an oxygen-enriched bottom fraction are generated. At least a part (19) of the bottom fraction is fed to the low pressure column (20), in which liquid oxygen and gaseous nitrogen are generated. The pressure in the primary separation column is substantially equal to that in the low pressure column. Also claimed is an arrangement in a rectification column system for low temperature air separation.
